COVID-19 Response Plan

The safety of our participants, staff, and partners is our utmost priority. We have activated an Incident Response Team dedicated to addressing the impact of COVID-19 on our organization.

Below you will find updates regarding Conservation Legacy’s response to the emerging concerns related to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

Field Operations Alterations

On March 20, 2020 the Incident Response Team made the difficult decision to suspend crew-based programming. The health and safety of our members, staff and communities is foremost in our decision making, and it became clear that suspending these operations was the safest and most responsible course of action.

Individual Placements positions throughout the country are impacted by this virus as well. We are continuing to support our members who are able to work remotely or with minimal interaction with the public and others. We hope to keep as many members in service as possible.

The Incident Response Team will evaluate the risks and possibilities to re-activate the operations which have been temporarily halted. We will also continue to explore opportunities to support the participants who have been suspended. Where it is possible and safe, we will be slowly be resuming operations. Ideally, we will be operating near full capacity by July 1st.

Mitigation and Minimizing Risk

Conservation Legacy is working on new risk management protocols, field models and recruitment strategies to ensure readiness to resume field operations at the appropriate time. We are looking to maintain our capacity to operationalize both existing and new projects. During our pause in service we have been working hard to upgrade our systems, review our policies and procedures, review our strategic plan and work on our Diversity Equity and Inclusion goals. We will be stronger than ever when work resumes.

For those staff and participants that are able to continue serving, Conservation Legacy continues enforcing a variety of policies and protocols to reduce the risk to our participants, staff and stakeholders:

  • Hygiene: Implementing strict protocols for personal, group and office hygiene following CDC guidelines and other recommendations from local and state health officials.
  • Remote Work: Implementing opportunities for staff and eligible participants to work remotely. Working to develop online curriculum and training for remote crew leaders, individual placements and participants.
  • Travel and Events: All non-essential travel and all events have been cancelled or postponed.

We recognize that we have an important role in reducing the spread of COVID-19 and appreciate everyone paying careful attention to the guidance, policies and procedures that we are implementing during this time. This situation is rapidly evolving so regular updates will be made to our websites and other communications as further action is needed.
