FALL 2022 WEEKEND YOUTH CONSERVATION CORPS PROGRAM

This fall, Conservation Corps North Carolina, in partnership with local non profits and state and federal agencies, is hosting a weekend Youth Conservation Corps Program in six communities. Each weekend is an overnight group camping event that includes training in Leave No Trace principles, a service activity such as tree planting or trail maintenance, and an opportunity for youth to get early experience with the outdoor and conservation industries. This volunteer event is generously sponsored by the Duke Energy Foundation.

Provided to the high school volunteers:

  • Leadership from experienced Conservation Corps North Carolina Adult Program Staff and Alumni
  • All camping gear needed Leave No Trace Principles Education.
  • Experience completing a conservation service activity (examples include trail maintenance, tree planting, raised bed construction, etc).
  • Community Service Hours (10 to 14, depending on the location) $100 stipend for contributing to the service activity and completing the weekend. Transportation support.

About each weekend:

RALEIGH, NC - SEPTEMBER 10-11, 2022

This weekend is a partnership with the City of Raleigh and NC State Parks. The service project will be completed at Dix Park and Falls Lake in Raleigh. Camping will be at Falls Lake State Natural Area.

OLD FORT, NC - SEPTEMBER 17-18, 2022

This weekend is a partnership with Camp Grier and the G5 Collective. The service activity will be completed at Camp Grier in Old Fort. Camping will be at Camp Grier.

MORGANTON, NC - SEPTEMBER 24-25, 2022

This weekend is a partnership with Foothills Conservancy. The service activity will be completed at Foothills Oak Hill Conservation Property. Camping will be at Lake James.

DURHAM, NC - OCTOBER 1-2, 2022

This weekend is a partnership with Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association and Urban Community Agronomics (UCAN.) The service activities will be completed at an Ellerbe Creek nature preserve and the UCAN Farm. Camping will be at Falls Lake.

ASHEVILLE, NC - OCTOBER 15-16, 2022

This weekend is a partnership with Southern Appalachian Highland Conservancy. The service activity and camping will be completed at Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy Community Farm.

CHARLOTTE, NC - OCTOBER 29-30, 2022

This weekend is a partnership with Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation. The service activity will be completed with Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation. Camping will occur at McDowell Nature Preserve’s Copperhead Island.
